4-H Clubs to host International Festival at fairgrounds

The University of Illinois Extension Office’s Lake County 4-H Clubs will host the 2016 International Festival from 2:30-5 p.m. Feb. 27 at Lake County Fairgrounds, 1060 E. Peterson Road, Grayslake. Each year, Lake County 4-H Clubs sponsors this event, which focuses on learning about different countries around the world via an exhibit of in-depth

displays. This year’s theme is “Parade of Countries,” and each attendee will be given a “passport” with the opportunity to earn a novelty prize at each booth, and play games, make crafts, hear stories, and view costumes and artifacts from each country being

exhibited. In addition, a silent auction will be held, offering baskets that symbolize the various countries. A second silent auction will offer international gifts for youths. All proceeds from the auctions will benefit the Extension Office to assist with budgeting

Library to relocate during renovation project

To begin a planned renovation project, the Indian Trails Public Library, 355 Schoenbeck Road, will close for two weeks, beginning March 21, to facilitate the moving of materials and staff to a temporary location. The library will reopen April 4 at 70 W. Dundee Road, in Buffalo Grove, which is located within the library’s boundaries. The temporary location will occupy roughly 13,000 square feet, and all services will be available at the site. Staff anticipates taking about 40 percent of the library’s collection to the temporary site. During the two-week closing, all online services will be available at the library’s Prospect Heights branch, located at 99 E. Palatine Road. Expansion and interior remodeling at Indian Trails is expected to take eight to 12 months. The renovation will add approximately 14,000 square feet to the building, offering the opportunity to add private study rooms, digital media rooms and a training lab for members. Green Living Fair to be held at Civic Center

The village announced that the 6th Annual Green Living Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 12 at Libertyville Civic Center, 135 W. Church St. Sponsored by the Libertyville Civic Center Foundation, in partnership with Lake County Congregations and Faith In Place, the event will feature speaker forums, and offer educational and resource opportunities in the categories of sustainable living, gardening, organic farming, composting, and green cleaning and green shopping, among others. In addition, attendees can bring items for recycling, including DVDs, CDs, ink jet cartridges, cell phones, gym shoes, eyeglasses, hearing aids, wine corks, Christmas lights, bicycles, bike parts and Styrofoam blocks — but no plastic bags. Grayslake

 Historical Society offers program on defunct gelatin factory

The Grayslake Historical Society, 164 Hawley Street, will present a program about the Grayslake Gelatin Factory at 10 a.m. Feb. 27. The defunct factory, which opened in 1904 and remained in operation until 1982, is known for its iconic, 80-foot-tall smoke stack, considered a local landmark. The program is part of a new exhibition, “Food, Family and Tradition: Dining in Grayslake,” which explores the community’s culinary history. Waukegan

City unveils amnesty program for unpaid traffic tickets

The city reported that it is offering an amnesty program for all unpaid parking, compliance and red light photo ticket fines owed. The program will run through March 31, and applies to all tickets written or issued prior to Jan. 1. Participants in the program will be allowed to pay the original ticket fine amount, plus a 20 percent administrative costs fee, representing a substantial savings for the cost of a ticket that has maxed out the penalty and late fee, which is $30 for all tickets.  Kids Only Flea Market coming to Jewett Park

The Deerfield Park District’s For Kids Only Flea Market will be held from 1-3 p.m. Feb. 27 at Jewett Park Community Center, 836 Jewett Park Drive. Young entrepreneurs (grades K-8) will have the opportunity to sell old games, books, toys, stuffed animals, sports equipment, trading cards and more — but no bikes or baby equipment. Participants

will price and sell their merchandise from vendors booths to interested buyers. Parents may supervise younger children, but all booths must be manned by children, and all merchandise must belong to children. The cost is $5 to rent a small table, and $10 for a large table. Barrington

Village to replace outdated sewer line

The village announced that following the completion of its comprehensive Sanitary Sewer Study, it has been determined that a major sanitary sewer line that conveys flow from the south side of town to the north side is in poor condition, and needs replacement. The project, slated to begin in 2017, will replace approximately one mile of outdated and deficient sanitary sewer, much of which was installed prior to 1950. Currently, the village is in the design and permitting stages of the project. Residents to be directly affected by the construction of the project will receive letters providing additional information.
