Police Dept. earns national reaccreditation status

The village reported that the Huntley Police Department has been granted reaccreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). The reaccreditation was awarded during the Summer 2016 CALEA Conference, held in Baltimore, Md., in late July. After conducting an on-site assessment of the police department, in April, CALEA stated that, “collaboration and partnership with the (Huntley) community in nearly every conceivable function of the (police) department has yielded an atmosphere rich in accountability and transparency.” CALEA officials also noted a continued low crime rate in the village as another factor in granting reaccreditation. Lakewood

Peterson to step down as Lakewood Village Manager

The village reported that Lakewood Village Manager Catherine Peterson will step down from her post in early September to accept a position as Dean of the Woodstock Center of Aurora University. Peterson, who began her career with the village in 2002, oversaw the voluntary annexation of more than 600 acres of property into the village, and she initiated the process of extending utilities to the intersection of Route 47 and Route 176 in an effort to strategically position the village for sustained growth. In 2007, Peterson oversaw the construction of a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facility, and she also secured grant funding for significant roadway improvement projects. Peterson departs with the village boasting the lowest tax rate in McHenry County, as well as a AAA bond rating, a designation reached by only 2.6 percent of Illinois municipalities. The Village Board is still in the process of considering options for Peterson’s replacement.
