Dept. of Health seeks volunteers for mock outbreak exercise

The McHenry County Department of Health (MCDH) is seeking volunteers to participate in an exercise designed to test readiness in the event of a public health emergency, specifically a widespread disease outbreak. MCDH has plans in place to dispense preventative antibiotics or vaccines to the public if such an outbreak occurs. In order to test the plans, a hands-on exercise will be held from 9:15-11:30 a.m. June 16 at Woodstock North High School, 3000 Raffel Road, Woodstock. To make the exercise as real as possible, MCDH is seeking a large number of people to volunteer as “victims” during the mock outbreak. Volunteers will be asked to go through the site to receive simulated medication. Five different shifts are available. Pre-registration is not required, but MCDH prefers that volunteers register in advance by calling (815) 334-0217 or by taking an online survey, available at www.surveymonkey.com. In addition, a printed and signed waiver form must be presented by volunteers at the site on the day of the event. Waiver forms are available at www.mchenry.il.us.
