LAKEWOOD

Village offers free vehicle identification stickers

The village reported that the Lakewood Board of Trustees unanimously voted to eliminate the mandatory vehicle sticker program for residents’ motor vehicles. As a community service, the village is offering vehicle identification stickers — at no cost — to residents who choose to display them on their vehicles. The stickers may prove to be important in circumstances when residents park on streets in other counties where a local sticker is required, and when tickets are issued if a sticker is not displayed. To obtain a Lakewood vehicle identification sticker (valid through 2018), stop by Village Hall, 2500 Lake Ave., during regular business hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday) and be prepared to provide proof of residency. Otherwise, contact Village Hall at (815) 459-3025 or via email at info@villagelakewood.il.us.

WOODSTOCK

MedReturn Box program notes third anniversary at Police Dept.

The city reported that the MedReturn Box, located in the lobby of the Woodstock Police Department, 656 Lake Ave., recently reached its third anniversary. Since the program’s inception, in May 2013, a total of 1,446 pounds in expired or unwanted medication has been collected. The box is accessible 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and is emptied once or twice a month as needed. The contents are then transported to a nearby Drug Enforcement Administration office, and destroyed in an environmentally sound fashion. Before dropping off medications, residents are encouraged to empty pill containers and place the contents into a paper or plastic bag. No liquids, sharps or syringes will be accepted.
