Teacher representatives and members of the McHenry High School District 156 Board of Education have reached a tentative agreement for a new teacher contract.

The deal was reportedly reached over the weekend, 10 days after the teacher’s first went on strike after months of contract talks broke down.

No details of the agreement have been released but the teachers union, the McHenry Community High School Education Association, Is expected to vote on the proposed contract on Monday.

If the teachers approve the contract, the district’s 2,500 students will go back to classes on Tuesday after being out of class for seven days while the teachers were on strike.

The sports teams have already forfeited games and matches missed while the teacher’s were out. Homecoming festivities that were scheduled for this past weekend were postponed..

This was the first time the teachers have been on strike since 1985
