Police in Lake County, and the Lake County Recorder of Deeds, are warning about an ongoing scam after an increasing number of county residents have contacted police to verify “official looking” letters received from “Records Recovery Service”, “Local Records Office” or other similar entities.

The letters offer to provide the citizen with a copy of their deed for $87, $89 or even $90. Victims have sent these entities money believing that they needed assistance in obtaining a copy of their deeds.

Deeds are recorded in the county office and copies are available for $1 per page. There is no charge for senior citizens or veterans. These letters offer to provide the citizen with a copy of their deed for $87, $89 or even $90+.

DO NOT send these entities money or request their assistance in obtaining a copy of your deed. THIS IS A SCAM!
