As of early Wednesday morning, Dan McConchie, a national legislative expert, was closing in on being the Republican candidate for the 26th state Senate seat in November.

McConchie had a 600-vote lead as of 12:25 a.m. Wednesday over Casey Urlacher, brother of the former Chicago Bear Brian Urlacher and mayor of Mettawa. With 147 of the district’s 169 precincts reporting, McConchie had 10,194 votes to Urlacher’s 9,523 votes. Martin McLaughlin, village president of Barrington Hills, was third in the three-man race with 8,519 votes.

Of the 22 precincts uncounted, 21 were in McHenry County. Polls in the county were ordered to stay open until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday because of voting issues throughout the day at various polling places.

The other uncounted precinct was in Cook County.

The three hopefuls were looking to be the Republican nominee to replace Dan Duffy, who is not seeking re-election.
