BCFPD launches new appointments at special ceremony 

The village reported that the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District (BCFPD) named James Kreher as Fire Chief, recognized recently promoted officers and pinned badges on new firefighters who successfully completed their probationary service periods during a special ceremony, held Jan. 16 at the Lake Barrington Fire Station. Kreher, who joined the BCFPD in 2014 and served as Acting Chief since July 2016, was officially sworn in as Fire Chief by Board President Keith Hanson. In addition, Deputy Chief Donald Wenschhof III, and Assistant Chiefs Nick Asta and Scott Motisi, were administered the oath of office for their respective positions. Officers recognized for recent promotions included Battalion Chief Brett Haller, Captain Angela Grandgeorge, and Lieutenants Byron Johnson, Eric Mandel, Matt McKinnon and Kyle Racina. New firefighters who received their badges were Nick DeLaurentis, Justin Kenyon, Cody Kruse, Zach Major, Dan Murphy, Jessica Potoczky, Matthew Reibel and Sean Wagner. Woodstock 

Friends of Woodstock Library to host mini golf fundraiser 

The Friends of Woodstock Library will transform the Woodstock Public Library, 414 W. Judd Street, into a mini golf course for a two-day fundraising event on March 10 and 11. The 18-hole course will run on all three levels of the library, and includes a water hole, and trips up the elevator and down the back stairs. Each hole will be uniquely decorated by area businesses and organization sponsors. Library After Dark, a special event for adults (ages 21 and up) will be held from 7-9 p.m. March 10. The event includes mini golf, hors d’oeuvres and drinks. Tickets are $25 and must be purchased at the library in advance. The traditional Saturday Mini Links will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (last tee time) March 11. Admission is $5 (adults) and $3 (ages 8 and under), and tickets may be purchased at the door. Golfers who hit a hole-in-one at the designated hole will win a model car. The fundraising event also includes a raffle, featuring prizes such as the Tower of Games, golf accessories and gift baskets. Winning entries will be announced on March 10 at the end of the evening’s festivities. Winners need not be present. All proceeds from the event will go toward The Friends of Woodstock Library. Algonquin 

Village earns financial reporting award for 13th year in row 

For the 13th year in a row, the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the village by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. Algonquin’s CAFR was cited for demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR. Crystal Lake 

Park Dist. to host Hawaiian-themed Mom-Son Luau   

The Crystal Lake Park District will host a special event, Mom-Son Luau, from 6-8 p.m. March 10 at the Grand Oaks Recreation Center, 1401 W. Route 176. The event, for mothers and sons (ages 4-10), includes dancing, games and dinner. Attendees are encouraged to dress in Hawaiian-themed attire, if possible. Admission is $18 per person, and all participants are required to register individually. No on-site registration will be allowed. Registration deadline is March 3. Johnsburg 

Huemann earns Chamber award for community service 

Johnsburg resident John Huemann, CEO of well-drilling contractor Joseph. H. Huemann & Sons, Inc., located in Ringwood, recently received the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce’s Frank. E. Low Award in recognition of his lifelong service to the community. Huemann, a current member of the Johnsburg Lions Club, Johnsburg Community Club, Johnsburg VFW and Johnsburg Area Business Association, also serves as director and president of the Illinois Association of Groundwater Professionals. In addition, Huemann has served as chairman of the village’s Economic Development Committee, and as a village trustee, since 1993. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for the McHenry Township Fire Protection District, and is a past president of the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce. Harvard 

Community Movie Night on tap at Jefferson School 

Harvard Community Radio and the Harvard Events Committee will present Community Movie Night, beginning at 6:30 p.m. March 4, at Jefferson Elementary School (west entrance), 1200 N. Jefferson Street. The event will begin with classic cartoons, followed by a screening of the 2016 film, “Trolls” (rated PG), a computer-animated musical romantic comedy based on the iconic Trolls doll series. Chairs will be provided; attendees can bring blankets and/or pillows. No outside food will be allowed. Concessions will be available. Admission is free. Library to host program on college financial planning 

The Huntley Area Public Library, 11000 Ruth Road, will host ISAC: Managing College Costs, a special program for high school students and adults, from 6-7 p.m. March 2. A representative from the Illinois Student Assistant Commission (IMAC) will be on hand to discuss financial planning for college, as well as strategies for earning and saving money, including scholarships, campus jobs and more.
