Fox River Grove

Village of Fox River Grove nets grant to cap LED lights conversion

The village recently was awarded a grant of more than $11,000 to replace all of its remaining vapor and high-pressure sodium street lights with energy-efficient LED lights. The project is being funded by Illinois Energy Now (IEN), an energy efficiency program sponsored by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. The Metropolitan Mayors Caucus administers IEN funding to public agencies through its Public Sector Energy Efficiency Program. In 2015, the majority of ComEd-owned street lights in Fox River Grove were converted to energy-efficient LED fixtures as part of ComEd’s Smart-Ready LED Street Lighting Program. Though ComEd owns and operates the lights, the village is responsible for costs associated with maintenance and electric supply. As a result of the previous conversion, numbering 160 lights, the village has saved more than $4,200 per year in energy costs. Though fluoride is found naturally in water, the amount of the mineral is too low in many American communities and does not meet the required standards.
