Fox Lake

 Venetian Night & Block Party to include fireworks display

The village announced that the 9th Annual Venetian Night & Block Party will be held on Aug. 6. The Block Party — featuring this year’s theme, “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere on the Chain” — will be held outside (beginning at 6 p.m.) near Dockers Restaurant, 33 W. Grand Ave., and includes food, beverages and a live DJ. The lighted Venetian Night Boat Parade, held on Pistakee Lake, will begin at 7:30 p.m. near Famous Freddie’s Roadhouse, 510 S. Park Ave. Cash prizes will be awarded to boats based on creativity, lighting, decorations and costumes. In addition, the Fireworks Finale (launched above the lake) will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. The Fox Lake Parks and Recreation Department will offer free shuttle service to and from the event from four locations (Millennium Park, Lakefront Park, the Community Center and Village Hall) in 15-minute intervals from 6-10:30 p.m. Admission is free. Huntley

Seven Dist. 158 schools earn PBIS recognition

Huntley Community School District 158 reported that seven of its schools recently were recognized by the Midwest PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) Network. Each year, the Illinois PBIS Network formally recognizes schools across the state that demonstrate implementation and sustainability of the PBIS process through measurable criteria. PBIS guides schools in identifying, implementing and sustaining effective practices to create a positive school culture that is safe, respectful and conducive to learning. Huntley High School and Martin Elementary School were among 41 schools in the state to receive Platinum recognition, indicating a high degree of fidelity to PBIS standards backed by data showing improved outcomes of the implementation. Chesak Elementary School (Gold recognition), Leggee Elementary School (Gold), Conley Elementary School (Silver), Heinman Middle School (Silver) and Marlowe Middle School (Silver) also were recognized for the 2015-16 school year. Live music, fireworks display to highlight Lakemoor Fest

The village will host Lakemoor Fest 2016 from 4-11 p.m. Aug. 12, 9 a.m. to midnight Aug. 13 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 14 at Morrison Park, 233 Rand Road. The event includes food and drink vendors, carnival rides (provided by Great American Shows), a Craft & Flea Market, a Beanbag Tournament, Kids’ Fishing Derby, a Horseshoe Tournament, Tug of War, Treasure Hunt (ages 3-12), a raffle, and live music by Relic Hearts (7 p.m.) on Aug. 12, the Saturday June Band (1 p.m.) and Field Day Band  (7 p.m.) on Aug. 13, and Matchbox Twenty tribute band 3AM (1 p.m.) on Aug. 14. In addition, the Flashing Thunder Fireworks Spectacular will begin at 9:30 p.m. Aug. 13. Admission is free; carnival rides require additional fees. Pet Charity Ice Cream Social to benefit shelters, rescue groups

The village announced that Nature’s Feed — a family-owned pet store at 2440 Westward Drive that offers natural pet food and horse feed, natural supplements, grooming products, basic supplies, pet toys and more — will host a Pet Charity Ice Cream Social from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 6. All purchases of ice cream (for humans and dogs) will benefit area shelters and rescue organizations, including Pets in Need Animal Rescue, based at Nature’s Feed. School Dist. 47 to host Transportation Open House

Crystal Lake Elementary School District 47 announced that the Transportation Joint Agreement bus service, shared between Dist. 47 and Dist. 155, will host its fourth annual Transportation Open House from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 10 at the TJA bus garage, 1204 S. McHenry Ave. The open house is a free event for incoming Dist. 47 kindergarten and early childhood students and their families to learn about bus safety, ask questions, meet bus drivers, and board and ride a bus before the 2015-16 school year begins. The event also includes a first aid and bus safety equipment station, a safe seating demonstration, snacks, games, activities and an interactive bus safety show, starring Buster the Bus, a miniature “talking” school bus. Families are encouraged to attend during time-slots that correspond to their last name: A-F (9-10 a.m.), G-L (10-11 a.m.), M-R (11 a.m. to noon) and S-Z (noon to 1 p.m.).  Blues, Brews and BBQs fest on tap at Petersen Park

The McHenry Rotary Blues, Brews and BBQs Festival 2016 will be held from 5-11 p.m. Aug. 5, 4-11 p.m. Aug. 6 and noon to 8 p.m. Aug.7 at Petersen Park, 4300 Peterson Park Road. The event includes an American Home Brewers Association-sanctioned Home Brew Competition, the 2016 Amateur BBQ Cook-Off, food and beverages from a variety of vendors, and daily live music, including headliners Kevin Purcell and the Nightburners (7:30 p.m. Aug. 5), Dave Weld and the Imperial Flames (9 p.m. Aug. 6) and Vino Louden (5:30 p.m. Aug. 7). Tickets are $10 per day at the gate, and $5 in advance if purchased online before 9 p.m. Aug. 4. Admission is free for ages 12 and under.  Police Dept. offers Citizens Police Academy

The Cary Police Department is accepting applications for its Citizens Police Academy, to be held this fall from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays in the Village Board Room at Village Hall, 655 Village Hall Drive. Residents attending the free program will study a wide variety of topics, including department organization and structure, patrol functions, criminal investigations, communications, K-9, firearms, criminal street gangs, narcotics and more. Instructors will include police officers, detectives, and supervisors and administrators from the police department, as well as guest speakers affiliated with the law enforcement profession.
