McHenry County College to host job fair

The McHenry County College Job Fair — in partnership with the McHenry County Workforce Network, the McHenry County Economic Development Corp., Sen. Pamela Althoff and State Rep. Barbara Wheeler — will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 6 in the college’s Multipurpose Room/Gym (Building A), located at 8900 U.S. Highway 14, Crystal Lake. The fair is open to MCC students and area residents looking for career opportunities. A wide range of area employers will be seeking temporary, part-time and full-time employees. Admission is free. School Dist. 155 earns pair of national financial reporting awards

Community High School District 155’s finance department received two national financial reporting awards for its Fiscal Year 2015 Comprehensive Audited Financial Report (CAFR). The first award is the Certificate in Excellence in Financial Reporting (COE) from the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International. This is the second consecutive year in which District 155 has received the COE award. The district also received the Government Finance Officers Association Certificate of Achievement in Financial Reporting, which represents the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. It is the first time the district has received the GFOA award. District 155 includes Cary-Grove, Crystal Lake Central, Crystal Lake South and Prairie Ridge high schools. Multi-level yoga event on tap at Soulful Prairies

Soulful Prairies, 4706 Alden Road, will present Gong in the Barn: Kundalini Yoga and A Special Meditative Experience With Horses from 6:30-9:30 p.m. May 5. Plant sale fundraising event to benefit HAHS

In support of the Hooved Animal Humane Society (HAHS), EverDream Nursery will host a plant sale fundraising event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 7 at HAHS headquarters, 10804 McConnell Road. EverDream will provide a variety of healthy plants — including perennials, ornamental grasses and young ornamental shrubs — to be sold at $5.97 per plant. A total of 15 percent of all proceeds will be donated to HAHS, In addition, HAHS will open its doors during the event for a visit with the animals and a tour of the facility. Huntley Outlet Center gets new ownership

A report stated that The Capital Companies, LLC, based in Elgin, has purchased the Huntley Outlet Center, a 77-acre property at 11800 Factory Shops Boulevard. The 279,000-square-foot shopping mall, built in 1994, reportedly is 50 percent vacant. The Capital Companies, in partnership with The Prime Group, based in Chicago, and Craig Realty Group, a California-based developer of upscale factory outlets in 12 states, plans to bring in new tenants to revitalize the mall. The Capital Companies cited the new, four-way exchange at Interstate 90 and Route 47 as a basis for declaring Huntely Outlet Center as a desirable location, in addition to the opening of the $200 million Centegra Hospital, scheduled for August. Community Club to host annual Super Raffle and Dinner

The Johnsburg Community Club, a non-profit organization that supports civic and community functions in the village and surrounding communities, will host its 24th Annual Super Raffle and Dinner on May 13 at Memorial Hall, 2315 W. Church Street. Prize tickets are $100 each, and include a premium open bar from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and a grilled steak and chicken dinner at 7:30 p.m., followed by the drawing. Additional dinner-and-bar-only tickets are available for $20 each. Food pantry reps to speak at Out to Lunch event

Sage YMCA, 701 Manor Road, continues its Out to Lunch Series from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. May 6 with a session featuring guest speakers Marilyn Georgy and Bill Eich of the Crystal Lake Food Pantry. Georgy and Eich will discuss the food pantry’s expansion and move to a new facility to meet the needs of the community. Black Tie & Jeans Gala to benefit Main Stay

Main Stay Therapeutic Farm will hold its Annual Black Tie & Jeans Gala from 5:30-10 p.m. May 6 at Starline Factory, 300 W. Front Street, Harvard. This year’s Kentucky Derby-themed event, “Jockeys & Juleps,” will feature bluegrass music by the Georgia Rae Band, a Southern-style buffet, live and silent auctions, and a Derby Hat Contest. Tickets are are $65 per person, and $50 for a table of eight. Proceeds will help fund Main Stay’s therapeutic horsemanship and riding, equine and animal-assisted learning, and adaptive garden programs.
