IWU art exhibits to showcase work by faculty, alums

Illinois Wesleyan University’s Merwin and Wakeley Galleries will feature work associated with the Ames School of Art Oct. 1 through Nov. 5.

The Merwin Gallery will be holding its Faculty Biennial Exhibit, which will showcase work from School of Art faculty members Ian Carey, Connie Estep, Mark Genrich, Carmen Lozar, Sherilyn McElroy, Grace Sheese and Kevin Strandberg.

IWU alumnus Spencer Sauter ’70 will be featured in the Wakeley Gallery in the exhibition, “Still Crazy After All of These Years.”

After graduating from Illinois Wesleyan in 1970, Sauter earned his graduate degree in art from Illinois State University. He has taught as an adjunct faculty member at Illinois Wesleyan.

A mixed-media artist, Sauter works primarily with digital media. He has had numerous solo and group exhibitions, showing work at SUNY Genesseo in New York and the Timothy Kent Gallery in Bloomington. His work can be found in collections throughout the United States and around the world.

A reception for the Sauter exhibit will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8 in the Joyce G. Ames School of Art Building, 6 Ames Plaza West, Bloomington.

Hours for the galleries are Monday through Friday, 12 to 4 p.m., Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m.

The galleries will have special extended hours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday Oct. 10-11 during Homecoming events.

Admission to the galleries and reception is free and open to the public. The galleries will be closed Oct. 16 for fall break.
