Officials mulling cuts for FY2018 budget

Normal officials are looking to trim $4.25 million in expenses as planning for the Fiscal Year 2018 municipal budget of nearly $102.5 million rounds the bend. Among the cost-cutting measures under consideration are staffing reductions of up to 25 persons and eliminating or reducing such programs as the Harmon Arts Grant Program and the electronics recycling center.

In addition to state funding woes, town officials have attributed other factors to the most recent rounds of budget crunching. Sales tax revenue, for instance, has declined the past three years. Firm decisions on what will be cut from the budget will be made this spring.
