Health department, ISU conducting ‘functional needs’ survey

The McLean County Health Department and Illinois State University are in the process of conducting a communitywide survey that is designed to identify the needs of residents in Bloomington, Normal and surrounding communities during times of emergency and disaster. The survey, which is anonymous and will take about 10 minutes to complete, will touch on such issues as medical care and transportation. It can be accessed at www.surveymonkey.com/r/MCHDFNMapping.

Bloomington Police investigating shots fired incidents

After fielding two separate calls in two days, Bloomington Police are investigating the most recent string of shots fired incidents. The first occurred in the area of Jefferson and Howard streets about 1:40 p.m. Wednesday, April 27. The second was in the 600 block of West Olive Street at 5:08 p.m. In both incidents, callers heard multiple shots. No injuries or property damage were reported in either incident. Police are investigating and asking anyone with information to call the department at (309) 828-1111.

Bloomington officials change hours for drop-off facility

The hours for the city of Bloomington’s drop-off facility have been amended, city officials announced recently. Beginning this week, hours at the site, 402 S. East St., will run from 7 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Mondays and Saturdays and from 7 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays. BPD Officer Nik Jones recognized as champion

Staffers within Advocate BroMenn Medical Center recently recognized Bloomington Police officer Nikolai Jones as part of its Chase for Champions event in honor of the community’s first responders. Jones was recognized for his community outreach efforts, including the popular Coffee with a Cop events that have occurred on multiple occasions. City selling surplus property to public through May 12

City of Bloomington officials are selling assorted surplus property through Thursday, May 12. A sampling of some of the items up for grabs includes vehicles, outdoor equipment and electronics. All items are being sold as-is and where-is, meaning the buyer needs to pick the item up at its current location within the city. Bloomington Police say ‘good-bye’ to Archie

Archie, the Bloomington Police Department’s specially trained canine, died the week of April 25, from complications related to cancer.  The Belgian Malinois breed dog had been diagnosed the week prior. He was 10 years old. Officer Stephen Statz, Archie’s handler, had been caring for him in recent years. Archie had been a member of the BPD since 2008. He spent his final days with Officer Statz and his family.

Nashville artist to perform at performing arts center May 27

Nashville-based country music singer Maggie Rose will perform at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts, 600 N. East St., at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 27. Rose is in the midst of a spring tour. She is known for her mix of pop melodies with an infusion of gospel. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the show. Changes made to Normal’s online payment system

Click2Gov, town of Normal’s online payment system, is undergoing a revamp, municipal officials announced recently. New features, which began Monday, April 25, include a new user-friendly interface that includes an auto-pay feature for the first time. Users no longer need a user identification name or a password to access the system. According to town officials, all existing information has been migrated to the new system.
