Oswego will light up with lasers this month when the village hosts its first annual Oswego Light Festival and transforms Main Street into a wonderland.

The free fest will feature a laser light show set to music, a 10-foot LED robot, food trucks, interactive activities and plenty of fun, according to Oswego Community Relations Director Michele Brown.

“I think it’s a really good opportunity to do something in the colder months when not much is going on,” she said. The festival is being held in addition to the Oswego Christmas Walk, which took place in December.

Held rain-or-shine on Jan. 21 from 5-9 p.m., the Oswego Light Festival is expected to draw crowds from Oswego and beyond.

Brown said she expects residents from across the Fox Valley to travel to town for the unique event.

“This allows us to showcase the village,” Brown said. “Not only does it give our residents something to do, but we’re inviting surrounding community members to travel to Oswego to see what we have to offer.”

Local community groups are invited to participate in the event by setting up interactive booths along Main Street. Glow in the dark hula-hoop contests and a life-sized Light Bright are already slated as events conjured-up by participating organizations.

Artists, community groups and businesses who want to be involved are asked to feature a glow game or activity during the event.

The event is presented by the village of Oswego and the Oswego Cultural Arts Commission and sponsored by the Oswego Chamber of Commerce, Oswego Tourism Bureau, Oswego Beats and Eats, and the Downtown Business Association.

“We really feel like this light festival will attract lots of people,” Brown said. “It’s very unique and no other communities in our area are doing anything like it.”
