Holocaust Remembrance Day, Sun Plaza, Peoria Riverfront Museum, 222 SW Washington, Peoria, 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m., free. Event will perpetuate the memory of the six million Jews who were murdered in the Holocaust. At 7 p.m. Agnes Schwartz, a Holocaust survivor, will speak in the Lobby of the Museum. MAY 5-6

Cinco de Kilo, Peoria Riverfront, 6 p.m.. Cinco de Mayo themed 5K race with a post-race party at the Rhythm Kitchen. Cinco de Kilo entry is $40 through May 4th, $45 on race day. Race day registration is available.

 

MAY 6

Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast, Embassy Suites and Conference Center, 100 Conference Center Drive, East Peoria, 7 – 9 a.m., $35 per person. The Kramers will provide music; the guest speaker is David J. Peter from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. For more information, email audrey@epcc.org.

Swing into Spring at 5-Points, Washington 5-Points, 360 N. Wilmor, Friday and Saturday, 7:30 p.m.; Sunday 3 p.m., $20 adults; $8 students. Voices of the Peoria Area Civic Chorale and the exciting sounds of the Central Illinois Jazz Orchestra combine to perform some of the greatest all-time swing era songs. Second Annual Dodge Brawl Tournament, Peoria Civic Center Exhibit Halls B and C 201 SW Jefferson Street Peoria, doors open at 8:00 a.m., tournament starts at 10:00 a.m. This co-ed, dodge ball tournament benefits the Children’s Home Association of Central Illinois. Every team is guaranteed 3 games with the new round robin tournament format. Entry is $20 per person, $120 per six-person team. Free adult admission.

 

MAY 7-8

Delavan Civil War Days, Delavan Lake Park E. First St. Delavan, 9 a.m. A family-friendly event that is free for all ages and offering a firsthand chance to lear of our country’s past during one of the most trying times in our history. Special appearances by President Abraham Lincoln, General Ulysses S. Grant, and General Robert E. Lee will make the history come alive. Also featured are an infantry field hospital and Sutler area.

Well-Being Is a Skill, Jump Simulation, 1306 N. Berkeley Ave., Peoria, 6:30 p.m. Hosted by the University of Illinois College of Medicine – Peoria, the speaker will be Dr. Richard Davidson, a renowned neuroscientist, who will speak about transforming the mind to improve well-being.
