After months of reconstruction, Pekin Public Library is being returned to its permanent location. The library closed on May 22 and will re-open in the latter part of June after all the books and equipment have been put in place.

The summer reading program has been re-designed so that the library building doesn’t have to be involved.

For the younger readers, babies through 3rd grade, the library is offering a BINGO game card for readers to complete. During the month of June, readers can fill in a box for each reading activity they complete. Once the game card is complete, parents can return the card to the library’s Youth Services Department after July 1 for a free book and mini prize pack of coupons.   Once the downtown library re-opens, the Youth Services department will offer a smaller version of the traditional reading program with a shortened reading log and special programming during the month of July. Bingo cards can be printed off the library’s website at www.pekinpubliclibrary.org.

For readers in grades 4-6, teens and adults, the Pekin Public Library is initiating an online reading program. Participants will track their reading online and earn points for reading and attending library events; once they hit 1,000 points, readers earn prizes and entries into drawings for prizes. This year’s Grand Prize for adults is $100 and an iPad mini for teens.

Using the library’s card, patrons can check out books at area libraries.

Visit the website at www.pekinpubliclibrary.org to access the BINGO cards and links to the online reading programs, as well as the digital library. For more information, call the library at 347-7111.
