The Pekin Public Library will host a weather spotter training class at 6 p.m. Oct. 13, at the library, 301 S. 4th St., Pekin

The spotter training class is designed for people new to severe storm spotting, as well as those that need refresher training. The training, taught by an NWS meteorologist, is comprised of all of the information that spotters need to be effective and stay safe.

Topics covered in the spotter training class include:

  • The role of the storm spotter
  • Thunderstorm development and features
  • Types of thunderstorms – especially those that impact Illinois
  • Tornadoes and other rotations
  • Non-tornadic severe weather
  • Resources for spotters
