WASHINGTON

City is March Madness Experience sponsor for 8th year

The city is a March Madness Experience sponsor for the eighth year, having spent $5,000 for the honor. The March Madness Experience is a family-oriented basketball playground held in conjunction with the Illinois High School Association boys’ basketball state finals at the Peoria Civic Center. The City Council approved the payment, which is covered by the city’s hotel tax revenue.

Activities take place in the 100,000-square-foot Exhibition Hall near Carver Arena, site of the state finals games. Hundreds of volunteers keep the March Madness Experience running during both weekends of the state finals.

March Madness Experience sponsors are communities that agree to sponsor the March Madness Experience. In return, sponsors receive marketing opportunities including recognition on LED boards and in public address announcements in Carver Arena, game program advertisements, and a link on the IHSA’s www.marchmadness.org website. The Civic Center has been home to the boys’ basketball state finals since 1996. The March Madness Experience has been part of the festivities since the beginning.

This year’s March Madness Experience dates are March 9 to 11 for Class 1A and Class 2A, and March 16 to 18 for Class 3A and Class 4A.
