Eureka College cancelled all evening Tuesday classes and campus evening activities in wake of a threat coming from people posing as clowns.

All offices also were closed after 4 p.m., according to the college.

The college received a threat on social media late Monday night (Oct. 3), according to the college.

Local law enforcement, including the Eureka Police Department, the Washington Police Department and the Woodford County Sheriff’s Office, were made aware of the situation.

The measures to cancel activities and classes was a precautionary measure, according to the college, and all normal activities and office hours are expected to resume Wednesday.

Still, the college said it plans to make sure all exterior doors of all residence halls are locked for the remainder of the week for safety reasons.  However, students’ movements will not be restricted, according to the college.

College officials will be working closely with the local police and there will be an increase in police presence on the campus in the coming days, according a statement from the college.
