Woodford youth participate in bicycle rodeo

Twenty-five Woodford County youth participated in the 2015 Bicycle Rodeo, which was held on Friday, June 19, at the Davenport Elementary School playground in Eureka. All youth first grade and older were invited to participate.

Riders were tested on straight-line control, weaving, emergency stopping, changing direction, and more. Bikes were inspected by Russell’s Cycling and Fitness and were checked for proper braking function, seat and handlebar height, and tire pressure. Free bike helmets were handed out by American Red Cross.

The winners in the first and second grade age group were David Schrock, first place; Andrew Zimmerman, second place; and Jackie Montgomery, third place. In the third and fourth grade age group, the winners were Tyler Robenstein, first place; Lilly Twait, second place; and Samuel Wofford, third place. Fifth grade and older winners were Collin Grebner, first place; Nigel Robinson, second place; and Mia Rokey, third place.

Six Bicycle Rodeo participants were also enrolled in the 4-H bicycle project and competed for ribbons. In addition to the riding course, these participants also completed an interview about bicycle safety. Tyler Robenstein was the 4-H Champion Bike I Plaque Winner, and Nigel Robinson was the 4-H Champion Bike II Plaque Winner. Other bicycle project members receiving blue ribbons included: Martha Cotter, Collin Grebner, Cliff Leman, Elijah Maynard, Nigel Robinson, and Lilly Twait.
