More Caterpillar workers will be losing their jobs as the Peoria-based heavy equipment manufacturer announced the layoffs of 475 employees.

The majority of the cuts will hit the Peoria and Morton plants and will come in the Customer Services Support Division, the company announced Aug. 25..

Of those 300 local job losses, 145 will happen at the Morton logistics center and 65 will come in Peoria, according to Caterpillar.

The layoffs, which will be spread out over several months, include more than 350 support and management roles and 120 agency roles across the company, according to reports.

Caterpillar said the job cuts are part of a worldwide restructuring for the company due to current economic conditions, with less demand for equipment. In addition, the company will be looking at consolidating divisions as part of cost cutting measures, according to reports

These latest rounds of layoffs are the third round of cuts Caterpillar has made this year.  About 120 full-time production workers were laid off at the East Peoria in January. That was followed in June with about 50 more jobs being cut at the East Peoria plant, making for a total of 170 workers being put out of work there. In addition, 150 full-time jobs were eliminated at the Decatur plant in May as the company said orders were down as  demand for mining equipment was down across the globe.

Caterpillar had nearly 131,000 employees worldwide at the beginning of this year.
