A Kendall County Republican is making a run to challenge incumbent Sen. Mark Kirk and force a Republican primary in 2016.

James Marter has announced his plans to run against Kirk because he believes the incumbent is too aligned with the Democrats on key issues, according to reports.

“To be crystal clear: my campaign is not stopping for any “strategy” to replace Senator Kirk with another RINO (Republican In Name Only),”  Marter Tweeted and then posted on his Facebook page Oct. 9.

Marter owns the professional management and software consulting practice of Marter Enterprises, LLC Marter based in Oswego.

Marter has stated his campaign is concerned with repealing Obamacare, defunding Planned Parenthood, taking a firm stance on new immigration and calling for balancing the budget. Marter says he is a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment and gun rights.

Marter made an unsuccessful run for Village of Oswego trustee this past spring.

Conservative members of the Illinois GOP have expressed disappointment in Kirk’s stance on positions over the past year.  Democratic Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth has also declared she plans to run for the Senate as well.
