Dan Klefstad hosts Morning Edition on NPR station WNIJ, and interviews regional authors for the station’s Read with Me book series. This year he released his first novel, “Shepherd & the Professor.” It’s the fictional memoir of Susan Shepherd — Gulf War vet, cop and single mom — and her efforts to find a publisher for her life story before she dies of cancer. “Pokemon – The First Movie”

When a group of scientists are offered funding into genetic research if they agree to try to clone the greatest ever Pokemon, Mew, the end result is success and Mewtwo is born. However, Mewtwo is bitter about his purpose in life and kills his masters. In order to become the greatest, he throws open a challenge to the world to battle him and his Pokemon. Ash and his friends pass the first test and prepare for battle. However, they learn what is really planned.

DeKalb Kite Fest

Free; $3 cash parking 

Come to see giant inflatable kites, dancing kites and fighting kites high up in the sky. New this year is Team Sky-FX, a quad kite flying team that amazes audiences with intricate stunts.

 

 

Sept. 11 

The World Apostolate of Fatima’s Tour for Peace 

6 p.m. 

St. Mary Catholic Church, 329 Pine St., DeKalb 

Free 

All are welcome to greet the International Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Fatima in procession when the statue arrives, then stay to pray the rosary, hear a talk by her custodian and attend a prayer service. Overnight adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and veneration of the statue will occur. The public may view the statue again in the church at 3 p.m. Sept. 12 before it leaves for its next location.
