The Life of Riley: Angie?'?s Barber Shop

By Jerry Riley

For years, on and off, I have been a subject, or victim, of my barber, Angie, at various demonstration or teaching situations. Angie seems to think my head is perfect… OK, well, acceptable,  in teaching or practicing flat top haircuts. I think it also helps the new barber to learn how to deal with little kids, since I tend to move my head when I shouldn’t and, what a revoltin’ development this is!
This time it was in her own shop. Although she denied it, I think she warned, or at least alerted Morgan, the trainee, about me. I may have lost points when I showed them I had brought a container of Neosporin To Go, in case of small nicks, and a bottle of Liquid Bandage, just in case.
Morgan hasn’t yet developed the same gentle touch Angie has. I could feel her pulling my hair, to set it up for the clippers.. Maybe she was just getting even with me for squirming. The more smoother touch will come with experience and confidence.
Angie had asked me about doing this several weeks ago so I had let my hair grow. Morgan actually gave me three different hair cuts. Angie started by giving me about half a flat top, Morgan finished that one and then gave me another flattop and a “Fade.” Getting shorter and shorter….
When the haircuts were completed, Morgan looked at me and said, “Awesome.”
I think she was referring to the haircut. I’d bet Angie’s positive comments were directed at Morgan and the good job she did on the haircuts, rather than me.
