Blues on the Fox returns in June

Chicago’s largest suburban summer blues event — downtown Aurora’s annual Blues on the Fox Festival — returns for a two-day run next month. 

The Fest is set for June 14-15 at RiverEdge Park and promises a two-day outdoor music jam featuring blues stars playing on the banks of the Fox River. 

Friday night kicks off at 7 p.m. with Chicago blues star and city bus driver Toronzo Cannon, celebrating the release of his new album, Shut Up & Play!” Friday’s headliner is internationally acclaimed pedal steel guitar blues master Robert Randolph, One of the Greatest Guitarists in Music History” (Rolling Stone Magazine), at 9 p.m.  

Saturday opens in big style with the legendary Wayne Baker Brooks, son of Chicago’s legendary Lonnie Brooks, at 3 p.m. Guy King follows at 5 p.m. with his blend of blues, jazz, soul, rock and R&B – which includes his full band. Following at 7 p.m. is  Joanne Shaw Taylor, a UK blues rock guitarist.

Closing the festival at 9 p.m. is dyed-in-the-wool blues-rock revivalists Big Head Todd and The Monsters.  

Tickets for Saturday’s shows are $20 with early-bird pricing through May 31 and $25 June 1 through showtime. 

RiverEdge Park is located at 360 N. Broadway in downtown Aurora, right across the street from  Metra’s Aurora Transportation Center.

All tickets are general admission and bring your own bag chairs or blankets. There will be limited bench seating (on a first-come, first-served basis) near the stage. Fees not included.

RiverEdge Park debuted in 2013 and was renamed Thomas J. Weisner RiverEdge Park in 2016 in honor of late Aurora Mayor Thomas J. Weisner. RiverEdge is anchored by the contemporary John C. Dunham performance pavilion, with state-of-the-art acoustics and lighting. 

RiverEdge Park is one of five live venues overseen by the Aurora Civic Center Authority.
