The Chicago Bandits women’s professional softball team announced that University of Illinois assistant coach Lance McMahon has been named to its coaching staff for the 2019 season. McMahon currently serves as the pitching and catching coach for the Illini women’s softball team. In 2017, he oversaw a pitching staff that posted a 2.97 ERA and helped guide former Illini and Bandits right-hander Breanna Wonderly to NFCA First Team All-Region and First Team All-Big Ten honors. Prior to his tenure at Illinois, McMahon coached at LSU for three years under head coach Beth Torina and helped lead the Tigers to back-to-back NCAA regional championships and two Women’s College World Series berths. At the conclusion of the 2015 season, McMahon and the LSU coaching staff earned NFCA Division I South Region Staff of the Year honors. The Bandits, members of National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) — formerly the Women’s Pro Softball League — play home games at Parkway Bank Sports Complex, in Rosemont. SSC to host annual Chicago Women’s Conference

South Suburban College (SSC) announced that it will host the 2019 Chicago Women’s Conference from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 15 at the Main Campus, 15800 S. State St. This year’s theme, “Leading the Way through Vision & Action,” marks the 11th annual event planned through the college’s Business and Career Institute (BCI). The conference is designed for women (ages 18 and up) in leadership roles and those aspiring to leadership, whether in business, education, volunteer organizations or governmental settings. Keynote speakers include moderator Dr. Lynette Stokes, President of South Suburban College; Sharon Johnson, National Council of Jewish Women: Cook County Section; Dr. Ebonie Williams, Principal of Thornridge High School; Leticia Cruz, School District 205 Board Member and Sally Walton, RN/MSN/MBA from UChicago Medicine/Ingalls. The admission fee is $59 (or $49 per person in a group of three or more) in advance or $65 at the door. The cost includes a full breakfast and admission to various break-out sessions addressing important issues for today’s woman. Fire Dept. honors Greenlee for aiding accident victim

The village announced that the Schaumburg Fire Department recently presented Matthew Greenlee with a Fire Department Citizen Award for his efforts in January to assist a driver following a car accident. After witnessing the accident, which occurred near a Schaumburg fire station, Greenlee ran to the station to report the accident. He then ran back to the scene and helped the driver get out of the car before applying a belt to the driver’s arm as a tourniquet, as the driver’s hand was severely bleeding from massive trauma. The Schaumburg Fire Department honored Greenlee for providing timely and spontaneous assistance in a selfless manner to support the accident victim’s survival. Registration open for Deer Park St. Paddy’s 5K/10K

The village announced that the 2019 Deer Park St. Paddy’s 5K/10K, part of the Chicago Spring Running Challenge, will be held March 16 at Deer Park Town Center, 20530 N. Rand Road. The event serves as a fundraiser for WINGS, a Chicago-based organization dedicated to providing housing, integrated services, education and advocacy to end domestic violence. Race day begins with event packet pick-up at 7:15 a.m., continues with the Kids Dash (ages 10 and under) at 8:15 a.m. and the 5K and 10K runs at 8:30 a.m., and concludes with the 5K awards ceremony at 9:15 a.m. and the 10K awards ceremony at 9:30 a.m. A winner medal will be awarded to the top three finishers (male and female) in different age groups and overall for both the 5K and 10K races. Each Kids Dash participant will receive a finishers ribbon. In addition, the Lake County Sheriff’s Reserve Deputy Unit will be on-site collecting donations of non-perishable food items. The event also features a live Irish band. Early Bird registration (until Feb. 28) is $36.99 (5K) and $44.99 (10K). Registration fees rise to $50 (5K) $60 (10K) after Feb. 28.
