Potential burglars target Southwest Side

Chicago police have issued an alert after two break-ins were attempted at businesses on the city’s Southwest Side.

In both incidents, males tried to gain entry through the rear door of businesses on the 2000 block of West 63rd Street in the city’s West Englewood neighborhood at 4 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13.

Police offered the following tips:

  • Keep the perimeter of your property well lit.
  • Report suspicious activity immediately.
  • Keep doors and window secured.
  • Immediately repair any broken windows, doors or locks.
  • If video surveillance is available of a burglary or a break-in attempt, save it and make a copy of the incident for investigating detectives.
  • If you are a burglary victim, do not touch anything and call police immediately.
  • If approached by a witness to the incident, request contact information.
  • Secure window air conditioner units.
