Teens charged in vehicle hijackings

Three teens have been charged in connection with vehicle hijackings in early January on Chicago’s West and South sides.

A 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy were each charged with a felony count of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm in connection with a vehicle hijacking on the city’s West Side.

Chicago police arrested the teens Thursday, Jan. 18, on the 1100 block of South Hamilton Avenue.

Police said they were identified as the offenders who, on Jan. 3, took possession of a vehicle at gunpoint from a 63-year-old woman on the 3800 block of West Washington Boulevard in the city’s Garfield Park neighborhood.

A 17-year-old was charged in connection with a vehicle hijacking that took place on the same day on Chicago’s South Side.

The teen was charged with one felony count each of vehicular hijacking, aggravated robbery armed with a firearm, and aggravated battery in a public place.

Chicago police and the Vehicular Hijacking Task Force arrested the teen Wednesday, Jan. 17, on the 3200 block of West 87th Street. Police said he was identified as one of the offenders who, on Jan. 3, implied a weapon, battered and then forcibly took a vehicle from a 21-year-old on the 200 block West Cermak Road in the city’s Armour Square neighborhood.
