Two killed in SUV accidents

Two people driving sport utility vehicles were killed in recent separate single-vehicle accidents in Chicago.

A woman was killed Saturday, Jan. 13, when her SUV hit a light pole on a Chicago expressway ramp.

Davina Thomas, 35, address unknown, was killed shortly after 1 a.m. Jan. 13 in the accident on southbound Interstate 94 at 75th Street.

Illinois State Police said the driver attempted to exit her Chevrolet Equinox at 75th Street, lost control for unknown reasons, and left the road to the right. The Equinox struck the light pole at the top of the right embankment.

Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled that Thomas died of multiple injuries from striking the fixed object.

Southbound lanes of Interstate 94 near 71st Street were closed for nearly four hours following the crash.

A 31-year-old man died after being involved in an accident shortly before 3:10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, on the 1300 block of North Lake Shore Drive.

Chicago police said the man was driving a black SUV southbound on Lake Shore when he struck the shoulder of the roadway. He was ejected from the vehicle and sustained trauma to his body.

The accident victim was transported to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition. He later died at the hospital.

A male passenger in the SUV sustained minor injuries and was transported to Northwestern Hospital in good condition.

Area 3 detectives are investigating the accident.
