The DeKalb Farmers Market features more than 30 vendors who sell locally-grown produce, wine, baked goods, flowers and artisan crafts. Genoa’s Farmers Market

Free

Held on the fourth Saturday of the month from May through September, the farmers market is designed to support local farmers while providing fresh and homegrown items to the community.

DeKalb Cornfest Bags Tournament

Free admission; $50 entry fee per team

First place in the tournament will win $400, and cash prizes will go to second, third and fourth places. The tournament is one of the events – including food, music, carnival and a car show – planned during the weekend’s DeKalb Cornfest. Sycamore Summer Days

The Olde Tyme Inn is sponsoring the next Sycamore Summer Day, an outdoor music street festival. Sideshow, Red Horse and Nashville Electric Company will perform. A 50/50 drawing will be end at the end of each band’s set. In addition to live music performances throughout the day, there will be food, a beer tent, children’s activities, ice cream and beer. A portion of the event’s proceeds will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project and JDRF.

STEM: The Maker Movement

The United States was built by a nation of makers, but today fewer and fewer people make anything, including their own meals. A growing subculture of makers and doers is changing that trend by sharing ideas, tools and workspaces as they invent everything from robots to life hacks. Join Russ Lankenau, co-founder and president of the Workshop 88 makerspace, and Federico Sciammarella, NIU professor and interim chair mechanical engineering, to explore the Maker Movement and its learning-through-doing approach to STEM.
