Using basic materials — cardboard, nails, straws, water bottles, and bamboo skewers — participants at the balloon-powered cars event will design and build cars propelled by air at the DeKalb Public Library, 309 Oak St., DeKalb.

AARP Drive Safe Courses
9 a.m.

$15 AARP members, $20 for non-members

Refresh your driving skills and knowledge of the road. Learn techniques for handling left turns, right-of-ways and roundabouts. Discover proven driving methods to help keep you and your loved ones safe on the road. This is a two-day event. Registration required. Call 815-895-2500, ext. 126 to register. Course fee is payable AARP, and can be paid at time of class.

Make a Chalkboard Flowerpot
7 p.m.
DeKalb Public Library, 309 Oak St., DeKalb
Free

Using chalkboard paint and flowerpots, participants will make their own customizable flowerpot. A variety of colors will be available and all supplies will be provided free. Participants have to be at least 8 years old. Class size is limited, and sign up will begin 15 minutes before class starts in the Nancy D. Castle Collaboration Studio. “We the People”

The Celebration Chorale will present its annual patriotic cantata, “We the People.” This musical combines religious favorites and patriotic standards that celebrate America. The audience will once again be invited to join the chorale in “Salute to the Armed Forces” as veterans and current service people stand to be recognized as their service hymn is sung. The chorale will be joined by the Chorale Children’s Choir and local community jazz band, Jazz in Progress.

Backup Has Arrived: Woodruff Family Children’s Trust Cancer Fundraiser
7:30 p.m.
Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St., DeKalb

The evening’s plans include a dinner, concert with light appetizers and cash bar, and an afterparty. Proceeds go to the Woodruff Family Children’s Trust for the benefit of the family’s children, as their father, Commander Craig “Woody” Woodruff, a 20-year veteran of the DeKalb Fire Department, undergoes treatment for stage 4 colon cancer.

St. George Greek Orthodox Church’s annual Greek Fest will offer plenty of Greek food and sweets for sale and a family-friendly beer garden. The entertainment will be Greek and American music.

Summer Skateboarding Camp

Fargo Skateboarding, 629 E. Lincoln Hwy., DeKalb
$50 per day, $200 per week

The Fargo skateboard camp program offers beginner to advanced instruction from Fargo team skateboarders and skateboarding games and activities. The next camp will be held June 25-June 29.
