Thousands of books, in many genres, will be available as well as CDs and DVDs. The sale is sponsored by the Elmhurst branch of Association of American University Women (AAUW) and benefits local AAUW scholarships and national AAUW programs and research for women and girls.

Destination Asia Opening Ceremony

Kick off the arboretum’s fifth annual Destination Asia Festival with a formal ceremony, performances, culinary offerings and a Japanese floating lantern display on Meadow Lake. The festival, which runs through Aug. 5, offers an opportunity to learn about the arboretum’s scientific efforts and collaboration with researchers in Asian nations to protect and conserve trees.

Create a Quote of Art: A Song Lyric Painting Workshop

Create a Quote of Art inspired by your favorite music. You will learn how to incorporate a decorative design with a song lyric of your choice (bring one of your own or use one that will be provided). Then learn to paint with watercolor pencils. Beginners welcome.

Movie in the Park

Bring a lawn chair and blanket to enjoy “Moana,” a story that takes place in Ancient Polynesia, when a terrible curse incurred by the Demigod Maui reaches Moana’s island. She answers the Ocean’s call to seek out the Demigod to set things right. Concessions will be available for purchase. In the event of inclement weather, the movie will be cancelled. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Aug. 7

Concert on the Park
7 p.m.
Wheaton Public Library, 225 N. Cross St., Wheaton
Free

Zydeco Voodoo will perform, playing a unique blend of traditional New Orleans music and popular rock and blues songs adapted to the Zydeco style. The concert will be held outdoors on the library’s West Plaza. Seating is first come, first served, so movie-goers may bring chairs or blankets. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held inside the library.

Movie on the Green

“Wonder” will be shown at Village Green (near Crate & Barrel). “Wonder” is based on the New York Times bestseller that tells the heartwarming story of August Pullman, a boy with facial differences who enters fifth grade, attending a mainstream elementary school for the first time. Seating is first-come, first-serve. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted. No rain date.
