Children’s Garden Campout

This campout is designed for families. Tents will be pitched on the lawn inside the Children’s Garden. Hands–on activity stations, snacks, night hikes and bedtime stories are planned. A light breakfast will be served and participants will be able to explore the Children’s Garden before it opens to the general public. For more information, call 630-968-0074.

Aug. 17 and 18

Two Nights of Concerts
5-10 p.m.
Naper Settlement, 523 Webster St., Naperville

Rock out at Naper Settlement’s Naper Nights Community Concert Series. Bring your lawn chair or blanket. No outside food or beverages are allowed. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. On Aug. 17, Chicken Fried, a Zac Brown Band tribute, and Soulshine, an Allman Brothers Band tribute, will perform. The Aug. 18 performers will be Bluffett, a Jimmy Buffett tribute band, and Planet Groove, who will play music from ‘60s to today. A band made up of young students at School of Rock, a local music school, will kick off the performances at 5 p.m. each night.

Architectural Walking Tour
10 a.m.
DuPage County Historical Museum, 102 E. Wesley St., Wheaton

Explore Downtown Wheaton through the lens of the museum’s new exhibit, DuPage Architects. Visit buildings by Frost, Zook, Brydges and others. The tour will cover two miles. To register, visit dupagemuseum.org or call 630-510-4941.

Wine and Art Walk

This juried art show will feature photography, woodturning, jewelry, digital and traditional painting, fused glass, and more from Midwest artists. Enjoy live music, sip wine and shop for art while strolling around Meadow Lake.

Lombard Cruise Night and Summer Concert
6-10 p.m.
St. Charles Road, just east of Main Street, downtown Lombard

Cruise Nights is open to all classic and custom cars. Ford and GM models will be featured. The band, R-Gang, will perform Motown, R&B, funk and soul tunes. A Kids’ Corner at Park and St. Charles will offer activities for children until 9 p.m. Call 630-620-5718 for more information.

Aug. 21

Book Discussion: “The Glass Room”
6:30 p.m.
Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 S Cottage Hill Ave., Elmhurst

The public is invited to participate in a conversation about “The Glass Room,” New York Times bestseller novel and a candidate for the Man Booker Prize. The book tells a tale of a recently married couple, who commission a German architect to build a modern house in Czechoslovakia but have to flee it because of World War II. The fictional Landauer House is based on the Villa Tugendhat built by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. The modern masterpiece embodies a “less is more” design with a transparent glass room as its center. As the house changes hands, each new inhabitant falls under a spell from the extraordinary idealism and aura of the glass room.

The Rhythm Rockets will perform ‘40s and ‘50s jazz and rhythm and blues in the series’ final concert of the summer. Food, wine and beer will be available for purchase starting at 6 p.m.

Itasca Concert Series

Free

The group, Swing Forward, will perform jazz and swing music as the summer concert series winds down. Bring lawn chairs or blankets and snacks. The performance will be canceled if there is inclement weather.
