This nostalgic trip back to the glory days of roller skating ends Nov. 4. Learn about the “rink rats” — the regulars at the legendary Chicago area skating venues. Learn about the history of America’s favorite 1950s pastime and popular rinks through video footage and rare photos and artifacts. Find out about The Elm, Elmhurst’s own skating rink that closed in the 1980s, and other Chicagoland rinks and view special artifacts. An Evening with Jazz Trumpeter Art Davis

One of Chicago’s leading jazz trumpet artists, Art Davis, will perform. He is a busy performer and jazz educator, who has had a varied career. He toured with Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra and Rosemary Clooney and performed and recorded with such notables as Maynard Ferguson, the Woody Herman Orchestra, Diane Schuur, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Tony Bennett. He is a founding member of the Chicago Jazz Orchestra. As a member of the Janice Borla Group, Davis is featured on all of her recordings. Chili Cook-Off

More than 15 chili dishes will be served at participating restaurants in Wheaton. Taste them all and vote for your favorite one. Then, the 2018 Chili Cook-Off winners will be announced after 5:30 p.m. at the after-party at Muldoon’s Irish Pub, 133 W. Front St. Tickets are available for purchase online at downtownwheaton.com, at the Downtown Wheaton Association office, 108 E. Wesley St., and the day of the event at Martin Memorial Plaza, on Front Street between Main and Hale. A portion of the profits will be donated to the Glen Ellyn Infant Welfare Society.

Shop for the season’s must-have holiday gifts at the event’s silent auction and enjoy fashions presented by Glen Ellyn Boutiques. The showcase will begin at 11 a.m. with a social and silent auction. Lunch will be served at 12 p.m., followed by the fashion show and jewelry drawing at 1 p.m. Crystal Cavey, Mrs. Illinois 2016, will be the fashion commentator. Steve Darnall will examine how radio rose to the challenge of life during World War II, with sound clips from news broadcasts, presidential speeches, entertainment shows and programs designed to boost morale. Darnall is the host of “Those Were the Days,” a program about the Golden Age of Radio that airs from 1-5 p.m. Saturdays on WDCB.

In celebration of National French Week in early November, Elmhurst College will present “The Face of Integration in Europe,” a conversation with Guillaume Lacroix, the consul general of France in Chicago.
