Nearly a year after 18-year-old Auroran Clarence King was found dead on a Chicago Street, Aurora Police have tracked down and charged his alleged killer.

Aurora Police have secured multiple murder charges through the Kane County State’s Attorney against Anthony Bills, 39, 700 block of Fifth Ave., Aurora.

Bills is charged with five counts of first degree murder, two counts of kidnaping, and one count of mob action in connection with King’s death.

According to charging documents, Bills and King were involved in a large fight that occurred in an apartment complex parking lot in the 900 block of Second Avenue around 8:30 p.m. on July 15, 2016.

Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said that as officers arrived on-scene, many people who were either involved in the fight or who were watching it, including King, ran.

A short while after fleeing from the altercation, King was allegedly spotted by Bills and several other men involved in the original fight and was beaten unconscious.

Authorities allege that Bills and the other men placed King in the trunk of Bills’ 2002 Lincoln Continental, drove to Chicago, and dumped him in the 4500 block of West End Avenue.

King’s body was located around 9 a.m. the following morning by Chicago Police.

The Cook County Medical Examiner ruled King’s death was due to the beating he had received.

Ferrelli said Bills surfaced as a suspect early on in the investigation, but that he fled to Tennessee. In Nov. 2016, detectives located the Lincoln Continental allegedly used in the crime, obtained a search warrant, and brought the vehicle back to Aurora for processing.

“Aside from outstanding work by detectives, police credit information received from the public as a major factor in securing the charges,” Ferrelli said.

The investigation into King’s death is continuing and Aurora Police have not ruled out charging additional subjects.

Ferrelli said the motive for the murder appears to be gang-related.

Bills’ bail was set at $5 million. He is currently incarcerated at the Kane County Correctional Center in St. Charles where he was previously being held on unrelated charges.

Detectives continue to ask anyone with information to call Aurora Police Investigations at 630-256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at 630-892-1000.

Calls to Crime Stoppers that lead to an arrest qualify for a cash reward of up to $5000.
