Investigation continues into death of Geneva man found in home

Geneva police are getting assistance from Kane County in investigating the recent death of a Geneva man.
Officers from the Geneva Police Department, with assistance of the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force, are conducting a death investigation after a man was found dead in his home on Crissey Avenue last week.
At around 6:19 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, Geneva police officers responded to the home after receiving a request for a well-being check from a person who is not being identified at this time. Police do say the call was placed by someone who was not inside the home.
When gaining entry, officers found Eduardo Gutierrez, 53, deceased.
Gutierrez’s wife, who also was home at the time, was provided medical attention as standard protocol. She was later transported to a local hospital for additional evaluation.
After discovering the body, Geneva police obtained a search warrant for the residence. With the assistance of the Kane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Task Force, the warrant was executed at about 2:30 a.m. Jan. 29.
Due to the unknown cause of death, this case is being classified as a death investigation. An autopsy will be conducted by the Kane County Coroner’s Office.
“The preliminary cause of death is pending further investigation,” the Coroner’s Office said in a Friday news release.
“The Geneva Police Department is confident there is no danger to the public in relation to the investigation. There is no one in custody at this time,” the city of Geneva said in a Friday news release.
