Cabaret – Live at the Paramount, 23 E. Galena Blvd. , Aurora. This is one of the most well-known Broadway musicals of all time, and it’s because of the extraordinary songs, universal appeal and a spellbinding story that still holds true in today’s world. Glengarry Glen Ross, Albright Theatre Company, 100 N. Island Ave. Floor 3,  Batavia, Fridays and Saturday, 8 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m., tickets $15-$20. The desperation is palpable as these Chicago salesmen reach for the top prize, which is quickly slipping away. They try all manner of tactics to come out on top but does the end justify the means?

Alien (1979) on the Paramount’s Movie Screen, Paramount Theatre, 23 E. Galena Blvd., Aurora, 7 p.m., $1 per ticket. The space ship Nostromo is heading back to Earth when it receives what appears to be a distress call from a nearby planet. When the crew stops to help, one of them is attacked by a strange creature. But what’s in store for them is more horrifying than any of them could have imagined.

MARCH 8-10

Geneva Film Festival, Playground 38, 321 Stevens St., Suite P, Penrose Brewing Co., 509 Stevens St. The event will showcase feature-length and short documentaries, narrative films, animated shorts and student productions from different countries. One of the unique aspects of the festival is that patrons have opportunities to meet with the producers and directors of selected films during special events. MARCH 9

Rhythm of the Dance, Batavia Fine Arts Centre,  1201 W. Main St., Batavia, 7:30 p.m. This two-hour dance and music extravaganza contains a wealth of Irish talent. The show is an inspiring epic, reliving the journey of the Irish Celts throughout history. Axiom Brass Quintet, Fermilab Ramsey Auditorium, S. Kirk Rd at Pine St. Batavia, 2:30 p.m. Praised for their “high level of musicality and technical ability” and for their “clean, clear and precise sound,” the award-winning Axiom Brass Quintet has quickly established itself as “one of the major art music groups in brass chamber music.”

When Julie, a former fling, shows up at Valentin Bravo’s door with a baby girl and then abandons her there, Valentin goes in search of the girl’s mother in order to give the baby back. But along the way, he realizes that he’s much better at being a father than he thought. But when Julie shows back up trying to regain custody of the child, Valentin isn’t going to let his daughter leave when the only life she’s known is with him.

MARCH 17

Maple Fest at Red Oak Nature Center, Rt. 25 (1 mile north of Rt. 56), North Aurora, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., free.  Tap the sweet taste of spring at the annual Red Oak Maple Fest! Naturalists from Red Oak will lead visitors to various stations in the woods to view demonstrations of how maple sap is harvested and turned into delicious maple syrup. Each group will tap a maple tree, then witness the process of how sap is boiled and converted into syrup. Group taste-tests will follow. Information: (630) 897-1808.
