Naperville Agency to Celebrate New Playgrounds

The Naperville Park District invites the community to celebrate the first of several playground openings that will take place in 2012.

On Tuesday, Aug. 14 the District will bring refreshments and give-a-ways for a neighborhood celebration and ribbon-cutting at the newly renovated playground at College Park.
Neighbors are invited to bring their families and friends to the playground to participate in the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, enjoy refreshments, and check out the new play equipment and landscaping.
The event will take place at 5 p.m. on at College Park, located at 147 N. Columbia St. In the event of inclement weather, the playground celebration will be rescheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 5 p.m.
Residents can check weather cancellations at www.napervilleparks.org.
Design of the new playground was based on input from neighbors, including representatives from Little Friends, whose students regularly use the playground, which is only a few feet from their main building.
“We were able to include play pieces that were requested by neighborhood families and by teachers at Little Friends,” said Project Manager Jessica Burgdorf. “The rock climbing wall and the spiral slide are elements that will appeal to the older kids who use this playground and will meet the needs of this neighborhood,” she said.
Two other playground renovations that are on track to be completed in late summer or early fall include playgrounds at Cress Creek Park, north of Ogden Ave., and at Creekside Park, located in southwest Naperville.
