Top of ticket Dems carry Kane, GOP retains local control

voter-registration-in-michigan-81Hillary Clinton carried Kane County in Tuesday’s elections but Republicans maintained control of most local county offices.

The Democratic presidential candidate collected more than 100,00 votes to 84,260 for President-elect Donald Trump, who also lost Illinois but pulled off a shocking political upset by carrying 30 other states while unofficially winning 276 electoral votes.

Republicans ran unopposed in all but one countywide race, including County Board president where Chris Lauzen was elected to a second term.

Other unopposed winners included Circuit Clerk Tom Hartwell, Auditor Terry Hunt, Recorder Sandy Legman and State’s Attorney Joseph McMahon.

County coroner Ken Russell won a second term in his rematch with Tao “Tom” Martinez, winning 53 percent of the vote.

County board Brian Dahl, Andrew “Drew” Frasz, Michael Kenyon, Douglas Scheflow and Susan Starrett all appeared on track for reelection in their races. Incumbents Theresa Barreiro, Mark Davoust  and John Hoscheit were unopposed in their campaigns.

Tammy Duckworth carried the county in her successful campaign to unseat incumbent U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk, emerging victorious with a convincing victory to become the second woman U.S. Senator from Illinois.

U.S. House representatives representing Kane County all won reelection.

Democrat Bill Foster (11th) unofficially claimed nearly 60 percent of the vote against DuPage County Board member Tonia Khouri to represent a district that covers portions of Kane, Kendall and DuPage counties.

Republican Rep. Randy Hultgren earned nearly 60 percent of the vote in his race against Democrat Jim Walz in the 14th District, which includes parts of Kane, Kendall, DeKalb and DuPage counties.

Republican Peter Roskam had a similar winning total against Democrat Amanda Howland to win another term representing the 6th District, which includes portions of Kane and DuPage counties.
