A 16-year-old Aurora boy was shot early Saturday morning in Oswego in what police are calling a possibly gang-related incident.

According to Oswego Police, the incident occurred around 12:23 a.m. in the area of Tyler and Adams streets where a fight was reportedly underway.

Officers were quickly dispatched to the area for reports of a disturbance and then shots fired. When they arrived on the scene, officers found a 16-year-old boy lying on the ground and suffering from a gunshot wound, police said. The Oswego Police Department did not provide details about where the boy was shot.

Police said responding officers provided initial medical assistance to the shooting victim until paramedics arrived and transported the boy to Rush Copley Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

As they began investigating the shooting with the help of the Kendall County Criminal Intelligence Team, Oswego Police learned that several people were in the area fighting when the boy was shot. After the shooting, the suspects fled the scene.

As of Saturday morning, there is no clear motive for the shooting and no suspect information has been obtained, according to police.

But, police did say they believe this is an isolated incident and that the 16-year-old may have gang ties and may have been the intended target.

Anyone who may have information regarding the incident is asked to call the Oswego Police (630) 551-7300. Information may also be provided anonymously to Kendall County Crime Stoppers at (630) 553-5999, cash rewards are paid for tips leading to an identification and arrest.
