Kendall County Circuit Clerk Becky Morganegg plans to step down next month after serving in office for nearly 11 years.

Morganegg, 61, announced plans to resign by the end of June in a letter to the Kendall County Board last week.

In the letter, read to the board by State’s Attorney Eric Weis, Morganegg stated that she was no longer able “to give 100 percent of my professional obligation(s) while continuing my family and personal obligations.”

A Republican from Yorkville, Morganegg was first elected Circuit Clerk in 2004. She was reelected in 2008 against no opposition and had 61 percent of the vote against a Democratic opponent in her successful 2012 campaign.

Her current term expires in 2016 and County Board chairman John Shaw is expected to submit the name of an interim clerk for board approval to fill out Morganegg’s term.

“It has been my honor and privilege to serve the people of Kendall County,” Morganegg wrote. “I have dedicated my entire professional career to the service of those who live and work here and have tried to serve them to the best of my ability.”

Morganegg, who made no public comment, would serve until her resignation takes effect on June 30.

The Circuit Court Clerk is responsible for maintaining and preserving all the official records of the court filed in Kendall County and serves the 23rd Judicial Circuit which covers Kendall and DeKalb Counties.
