Police seek public indecency suspect

Aurora police are searching for a man who allegedly exposed himself to an 11-year-old girl as she walked to school on Sept. 11

Police said that at about 8:20 a.m. the girl was walking to Jefferson Middle School in the 1100 block of Plum Street when she saw an unknown man who was black and approximately 25- to 35-years-old, sitting in an older, white sedan (possibly a Ford) parked in the 1000 block of Charles Street. The man called the girl over to his car, which she refused. As she walked by, she saw that the man had his pants down and he was touching himself.

The only further description of the man is he was wearing blue jeans and a dark T-shirt.

The girl immediately reported the incident to an administrator at the school when she arrived. Police could not locate the suspect when they checked the area.

Sheriff’s Office gets grant for tobacco education

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office has been chosen by the Illinois Department of Human Services to receive a grant in the amount of $770 to establish a comprehensive educational and enforcement program addressing minimum age tobacco laws.

“We are pleased to receive this grant to enhance our efforts to reduce youth access to tobacco products. The health of the children in our community is very important and we are dedicated to reducing the availability of tobacco products to minors through enforcement efforts,” said Sheriff Dwight Baird.

Kendall County Sheriff’s Office Community Policing Deputies will conduct three compliance checks of retailers of tobacco products in unincorporated Kendall County.

Prior to the first compliance check, all tobacco retailers will be educated on the sale of tobacco and will receive the Department’s Tobacco Retailer Kit which includes a review of state minimum age tobacco laws, required signage, and training guides for their personnel.

Tobacco retailers within the entire program currently average over 80 percent compliance rates. During the year of 2017, tobacco retailers in unincorporated Kendall County were above the state average for compliance. Montgomery

Electric aggregation program links to ComEd

Each year the Village of Montgomery seeks competitive bids for electrical power on behalf of its residents and small businesses. Since the beginning of this program in 2012, it has saved nearly $250 per participating account for a cumulative $1.15 million in savings village-wide.

This summer the bids received were all higher than the ComEd rate of 7.75-cents per kilowatt hour. Therefore, those who participate in the village’s electrical aggregation program will be automatically switched to ComEd effective with their meter read date in October 2018, and will receive a “Confirmation of Drop” notice from ComEd in September, informing them of the upcoming switch.

Next summer the village will seek bids again and will provide another update at that time.

It is likely that residents will receive solicitations from alternate electric suppliers from time to time. When considering any solicitation, residents are advised to avoid variable rates that may have no upward cap, termination fees, and any added monthly or miscellaneous fees.

Never provide your electrical account number to a solicitor unless you have contacted them directly to enroll and you have reviewed all terms and conditions.

Avoid supposed deadlines associated with signing up for a program.

Be cautious if solicitors ask to see your current electric bill and black out your account number before showing it to them.

No solicitor is associated with the Village of Montgomery and they are not soliciting at the request of the Village. If a solicitor claims otherwise, take their information and report to the ICC at http://www.icc.illinois.gov/consumer/complaint. Oswego

District 308 hosts annual food drive

Hunger is less prevalent in our community thanks to the Kendall County Community Food Pantry providing thousands of food and household items to families every month. For the fifth consecutive year, Oswego Community Unit School District 308 will help to keep pantry shelves well stocked and your assistance is needed.

For the first time, School District 308 has teamed up with Allied First Bank and Aramark to put on a Community Collection Day Celebration, a fun way to come together as a community and give to those in need on Saturday, Sept.  29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Allied First Bank in Oswego.

Residents are invited to come out and enjoy music, games, food, prizes, cheerleaders, mascots, and more.

Those who bring a donation for the Food Pantry will receive a free lunch. District partner businesses will be there with special offers, including cash incentives for the Food Pantry and any new customer opening an account at Allied First Bank.

Donations and incentives can be counted towards any SD 308 school’s collection total.

Starting on Sept. 24 through Oct. 3, schools in the district will participate in the district’s annual food drive competition. The food drive will serve as a unified promotion between the elementary schools, junior highs, and high schools leading up to the Crosstown Challenge football game on Oct. 5.

The winning schools will be announced at halftime of the Varsity game, awarded with a coveted title and trophy.

In 2014 the district made an inaugural donation to the Kendall County Food Pantry of 58,000 items, the largest single donation ever made to the pantry. That record was shattered in 2015 when the district collected over 85,000 items, again in 2016 with over 113,000 items, and in 2017 with a record breaking 126,932 items.

Donation boxes will be available in all schools. There will be donations boxes out in our community as well to help support our efforts of giving.

Fans attending the Crosstown Challenge football game will receive a raffle ticket for each can of food they bring and a chance to win prizes announced throughout the game.

Donations include non-perishable food items, baby care items, pet food, and household supplies like paper goods and cleaning products. The food drive occurs at a critical time before the holiday season, when food donations are needed most.

It also aligns the efforts of individual schools to maximize the community’s impact in fighting hunger locally.
