Police participate in National Drug Take-Back
Aurora police will take part in the National Drug Take-Back on April 30 in association with the Drug Enforcement Agency.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the department will be collecting expired, unused, and unwanted prescription medications (pills or patches only) at the front desk of the police department, 1200 E. Indian Trail, Aurora. There will be no questions asked, police said. After their relinquished, the drugs will then be safely disposed of. The service is free and anonymous. Please note that liquids, needles or sharps cannot be accepted.
According to Aurora police, the abuse of prescription medications is a vital public safety and health issue. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.

Yorkville Police warn of school bus stop rules

The Yorkville Police Department would like to remind drivers that on Illinois roads with four lanes or more, with traffic in both directions, vehicles traveling in the opposite direction of a stopped school bus need not stop. Motorists may proceed after stopping for a bus if one of the following occurs: the bus resumes motion, the bus driver signals the motorist to proceed, or the flashing lights are turned off and the stop arm signal is no longer extended. There has been an increase in complaints about vehicles stopping when they do not need to, especially in the area of Bridge Street (Route 47) near Walnut Street. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the Yorkville Police Department at (630) 553-4340.
