Oswego hosts Wine on the Fox this weekend

The Village of Oswego in collaboration with the Oswego Tourism Bureau and the Oswegoland Park District is pleased to announce “Wine on the Fox”, a premier wine tasting festival in downtown Oswego on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8.

With the assistance of the Fox Valley Winery and the Illinois Grape Growers and Vintners Association, Wine on the Fox will take place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Wine on the Fox will take place in the beautiful Hudson Crossing Park, located at 65 N. Harrison St., on the Fox River and parking is available in all available lots throughout downtown Oswego.

Both days will include delicious wine from 14 Illinois wineries, scrumptious fare from local vendors and magnificent musical entertainment on Saturday will feature Thompson Duo, Junkyard Groove and headliner, Red Woody. On Sunday, the line-up includes The County Line Brothers, Southern Side Up and headliner, Thirsty Boots Band. A designated driver tent will be sponsored by the Rotary Club of Oswego.

This event is free and open to the public. Wine Tasting is $15 per day for a souvenir wine glass, a wristband and 5 tasting tickets. An Advanced Two-Day Pass may be purchased for $25 which includes one souvenir wine glass and 20 tasting tickets (10 per day). Advanced Two-Day Passes are non-refundable. Additional tasting tickets are $1 each, must be 21 with proper identification to taste wines. Convicted murderer found staying at Kendall shelters

Kendall County deputies recently arrested a convicted murderer after they received a tip stating that the man had been staying at various Kendall County Public Action to Deliver Shelters (PADS) instead of  his registered address in Springfield.

According to deputies, Jerome Trosclair, 61, was charged with one count of violation of the murder and violent offender against youth registration act. He was taken into custody on April 5 and remains in the Kendall County jail with a bail of $75,000, according to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said Trosclair had been convicted of two counts of murder with intent to kill or injure in 1977 in Cook County.

Coffee with Kifowit

Residents are invited to join state Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, at her “Coffee with Kifowit” events throughout the district in May to discuss state and local issues in a casual setting.

“Hearing directly from the families of my district helps me better represent our area in Springfield,” Kifowit said. “I am concerned about our most vulnerable residents losing access to the critical services they rely on due to the ongoing budget crisis. I encourage anyone who needs help or would like to share their concerns about local or state issues to stop by and visit.”

All “Coffee with Kifowit” events are free to the public, and those who attend will be treated to a refreshment of their choice. The events are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., and will take place at the following locations: Monday, May 9 at Maxfield’s, 2290 Ogden Ave., Aurora; Monday, May 16 at Benny’s Place, 1158 Douglas Road,, Oswego; and Monday, May 23 at Panera, 2775 Showplace Drive, Suite 123, Naperville.

One of Kendall County’s Most Wanted captured.

On April 19, Jody Skowronski, 38, one of Kendall County’s most wanted fugitives, was arrested in San Diego, Calif. by the San Diego Police Department. Skowronski. According to Kendall County deputies, Skowronski had several outstanding warrants from Kendall County and surrounding jurisdictions. Skowronski was wanted by the Plano Police Department for two counts of felony disorderly conduct and had a failure to appear for felony retail theft warrant from Kendall County. Skowronski’s outstanding warrants from surrounding jurisdictions were for retail theft, filing a false police report and failing to appear for resisting a peace officer. Skowronski had been a fugitive in Kendall County since October 2015.

Scholarship opportunity

Residents are invited to apply for the Peace Keepers College Scholarship through the Kendall County Sheriff’s Department. Scholarship applicants must be dependents of active duty or retired Law Enforcement or Law Enforcement killed in line of duty death or dependents of active duty military, active Military Reserve, active National Guard, or a member killed in action. Spring cleanup services

Republic Services will provide a free Spring Cleanup service in Montgomery on each household’s regularly scheduled trash pickup day during the week of May 23. On the regular pickup day that week, residents may discard unlimited amounts of trash, yard waste, furniture, appliances and up to four tires (no rims). Please note that electronics cannot be disposed of curbside. All trash must be placed in cans, bags or boxes (not to exceed 50 pounds each) and set in an organized manner at the curb. Brush must be securely tied in a bundle and cannot exceed 4 feet in length and 2 feet in diameter. Piles of loose trash, electronics, demolition material, concrete, metal poles, liquids and hazardous waste will not be accepted. No stickers are required! This is an excellent opportunity to clean out basements, garages and yards without incurring additional disposal costs. Items must be placed at the curb prior to 6 a.m., as crews will not return to pick up items that are placed out later. This service is for Village of Montgomery residential addresses only (not businesses or unincorporated areas).

Churchill Character Crew Makes Huge Donation to Kendall County Food Pantry

The Churchill Elementary School Character Crew recently organized a food and school supply drive for the Kendall County Food Pantry.

The crew personally delivered more than 450 items to help those in need in our Kendall County communities. The Churchill Character Crew is an after-school club that gives students opportunities to demonstrate good character based on the six pillars of the Character Counts! program.

The students help plan and execute Character Counts! assemblies, coordinate school-wide service projects, and connect with the community in meaningful ways, such as food and clothing drives, and visits to the Autumn Leaves Memory Care facility.

Operation Prom at Oswego High School

Oswego High School recently conducted an “Operation Prom” crash site scenario to demonstrate the immediate effects of drinking and driving.

“Operation Prom” took place at 8:15 a.m. in the parking lot at OHS. Juniors and seniors attended the event. It was also streamed on Facebook Live and received over 28,000 views.

Students, parents and first responders created the crash site scene to represent the horrors that could result from such accidents.

Jennifer Wikoff, assistant director of district student services for Community Unit School District 308, helped plan and organize the successful event.

“This took a lot of planning from the school, local and state law enforcement, the fire protection district and other agencies,” Wikoff explained. “School District 308 is fortunate to have strong partnerships with each of them.”

The agencies that participated in the event included: Oswego Fire Department, Oswego Police Department, Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, Kendall County Coroner, Illinois State Police, Superior Air Medics.

Scam Awareness Day

Learn how to protect yourself, your identity, and your money during this free event held on May 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Oswego Senior Center. 156 E. Washington St., Oswego as The Oswego Senior Center presents its annual Scam Awareness Day.  This comprehensive event is an opportunity to learn about current scams and schemes that are impacting community members.  By becoming aware of scams, schemes, and identity theft, participants will be better prepared to avoid being a victim through knowing what to do if put in a compromising situation. Join Park District staff at Sandwich’s beautiful Harvey Creek Conservation Park. Bring your own tent and sleeping gear for a night under the stars. For $10, each person we will be provided dinner, s’mores, beverages, breakfast and entertainment. This is a kid friendly night for the entire family that will involve, crafts, games, stories around the fire and a Snipe hunt. There will be a movie shown later in the evening once the sun goes down. Feed My Starving Children

Spend an afternoon doing some charity work, and then enjoying lunch with friends. On Monday, May 16, Senior Services Associates we will be heading to Feed My Starving Children in Aurora.  The bus will be leaving at 8:36 a.m. from the Beecher Center, 908 Game Farm Road in Yorkville.  The cost for the bus is $5.00.  Afterwards, we will be going out for lunch in the area.  Please join us and pack some manna packs.
