On March 1, during the monthly Kendall County Board meeting, three Kendall County Sheriff’s Office deputies were honored for their actions while on duty.

Deputy Jason Larsen, Deputy Zach Tongate, and Deputy Tyler Johnson each received awards from Sheriff Dwight A. Baird, the Kendall County Board, and The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.

The following is a summary for why the deputies received awards:

  • On Oct. 12, 2015, Deputy Larsen, an eight-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, responded to a call of a male believed to be overdosing on heroin.

Larsen administered Narcan to the male who was transported to the hospital by paramedics.

Larsen was awarded the Sheriff’s Office Life Saving Award by Sheriff Baird, a certificate and plaque of recognition from the Kendall County Board and the Law Enforcement Commendation Medal from The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution for his actions.

  • On Dec. 29, 2015, Deputy Tongate, a two-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, responded to a call of a male who fainted and was barely breathing.

Tongate utilized an AED machine and performed CPR on the male until paramedics arrived. The male survived and Tongate was awarded the Sheriff’s Office Life Saving Award by Baird, a certificate and plaque of recognition from the Kendall County Board and the Law Enforcement Commendation Medal from The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution for his actions.

  • On Jan. 1, Deputy Johnson, a two-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, responded to a call of a vehicle that had crashed into a pond. Johnson entered the frigid water and was able to rescue the female trapped in the vehicle.

Johnson was awarded the Sheriff’s Office Medal of Valor by Baird, a certificate and plaque of recognition from the Kendall County Board and the Law Enforcement Commendation Medal from The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution for his actions.
