A 28-year-old man was arrested at O’Hare International Airport on Wednesday, and charged with the sexual assault of a young Oswego boy.

Alexander Bowers, of Little Rock, Ark., has been accused of having on-going sexual contact with the boy at the child’s Oswego home for four years, beginning in 2008 when the boy was 9-years-old.

Bowers has been charged with three counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault, Class X felonies, and three counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, Class 2 felonies.

He was taken into custody at the airport upon his arrival from Japan. Bail has been set at $1 million.

According to Oswego police, the case came to light in March 2016 when the victim’s parents contacted Oswego police after learning about the alleged abuse. Detectives began to investigate the case and learned that Bowers was no longer in the area, but had moved to Arkansas. They also learned that he had left the U.S. to travel to Japan, and was planning to enter Australia.

With this knowledge, police contacted ICE/Homeland Security Investigations and Australian authorities were notified that Bowers was attempting to enter the country. Bowers travel visa was revoked the same day, police said.

On Aug. 24, the Kendall County State’s Attorney approved the charges against Bowers and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Oswego detectives, knowing that Bowers was out of the country, notified INTERPOL of the newly issued warrant and Bowers was detained by Japanese authorities on Aug. 30. Arrangements were made to bring Bowers back to the U.S. where he was taken into custody by Oswego Detectives at O’Hare. He was booked, processed and transported to the Kendall County Jail.

The arrest was a joint effort of Oswego Police Detectives, the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office, the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, and the Foreign National Japanese and Australian authorities.
