The Oswego School District 308 community is mourning the loss of a 13-year-old student who died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, Nov. 24.

Donja Jamonti (DJ) Williams was a student at Traughber Junior High School and died from complications following an asthma attack, according to the district.

“There are no words to express our grief and heartfelt sympathy for DJ’s family. Family and friends have shared how DJ loved skateboarding, listening to music, dancing and showing people how to dance. He was a likeable young man with tremendous talents and a bright future. I have recently learned how kind and caring DJ was and how he touched the lives of so many people,” said Superintendent Matthew Wendt in a written statement.

Wendt talked to the boy’s mother offering condolences on behalf of the School District and offered support to her and the family. DJ has two older siblings, a brother who is a graduate of Oswego High School and a sister, who currently attends OHS.

“A student’s death is a difficult and challenging event that can generate high levels of emotion for some students and staff members,” Wendt stated.

The district is encouraging students and their families to visit with available grief counselors should they feel the need. A crisis counseling team will be at Traughber Junior High School for those who might need assistance at school.

Any District 308 staff members seeking support should contact Traughber Junior High School Principal Tarah Fowler at (630) 636-2700.

The district released information on services for DJ Williams. A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Main Baptist Church 814 E. Galena Blvd., Aurora. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11 a.m. at the church.

The burial will be at River Hills Memorial Park, 1650 S. River St., Batavia. Following the burial, the family will go to the Main Baptist Church located at 814 E. Galena Blvd., Aurora. Flowers and/or donations may be sent to the Church.
