Oswego police shoot male suspect armed with rifle

An unidentified man was wounded during a police-involved shooting in Oswego overnight Aug . 28-29.

The incident happened  at 12:16 a.m. when police responded to a threat of a “massacre” happening in the 100 block of Ashlawn on the north side of the village, according to Oswego Police.

When officers arrived at the home, they found a 24-year-old male, whose identity has not been released, with a raised a rifle pointed toward the two officers, according to police.

Two officers, fearing for their safety, fired at the suspect and the suspect was hit, according to the Oswego Police.

The Oswego Fire Protection District took the suspect to an area hospital for treatment, but there is no information on his condition.

The two officers involved in the shooting have served on the Oswego Police force for several years, one an 18-year veteran and the other a nine-year veteran, according to police.  Neither was injured in the incident, however they did go to an area hospital for examination, according to Oswego Police.

The Illinois State Police will be conducting an independent investigation of the shooting, according to reports.
