Mundelein

Razing of building to kick-start development effort

The village reported that the Mundelein Board of Trustees recently adopted a resolution authorizing the demolition of the building located at 538 N. Morris Ave., formerly home to Bradco Enterprises. The demolition will clear the way to facilitate redevelopment of the site, a 2.8-acre property with two parcels of property and a 26,000-square-foot building. In 2016, the Board of Trustees authorized the purchase of the property for $200,000. The property appraised at $525,000. Acquiring such key properties enables the village to guide the development of the property in a manner that is consistent and supportive of the place-making efforts undertaken by the community. Round Lake

Village Board OKs new outdoor seating ordinance

The village announced that the Round Lake Village Board recently approved changes to the Round Lake Village Code in order to allow more businesses to take advantage of the summer months and implement outdoor seating. Previously, restaurants represented the only businesses that qualified for outdoor seating. Under terms of the revised code, any business in good standing with the village, and with a space available that meets requirements of the code, will be able to obtain an outdoor seating license. Businesses that serve alcohol will need to install a 3-foot barrier around the outdoor seating area. In addition, businesses will be required to close their outdoor seating areas at 10 p.m., and smoking will not be permitted in the outdoor area. The revisions also allow each business to determine if the outdoor area is pet-friendly. Previously, the only animals allowed in outdoor seating areas were those assisting the disabled.
